You light your burner, wait for that lovely smell to fill the room… and nothing. It’s frustrating. You might start wondering if your sizzlers are faulty or if your nose has just stopped working. In most cases, this isn’t a product fault. It’s something simple that’s easy to fix once you know what to look for.
Scented sizzlers (also called simmering granules) are known for strong scent and easy cleanup. When they’re used correctly, they work fast. If you can’t smell anything, there’s always a reason and it’s usually one of the below-
Nose blindness – your brain filters it out
Too little product – not enough to fill the room
Low heat – burner not hot enough
Drafts and Open Windows – scent getting pulled away
Used up Sizzlers – fragrance already gone
Weak product – low fragrance load
If you can smell them in the bag, they’re fine. It’s the setup.
Quick Fixes
- Leave the room for 5 minutes or smell some coffee, our customers have said this helps them “reset their nose”
- Use a bit more, spread it out across the dish with a small scoop or spoon but do not heap the burner. Customers find they can get more from their sizzlers by spreading them out across the dish and mixing them a little so that any unspent fragrance can be enjoyed.
- Use a hotter burner (40W or 4 hour tea light)
- Keep away from windows and doors
- Replace if they look pale or dry

Quality Matters
Fragrance load determines how strong it can smell. If your sizzlers do not have a higher fragrance load the scent may not throw as well and may be weak. Purchasing quality sizzlers that are handcrafted is usually best.
