Hoover Discs – The Complete Guide

Ever switched your vacuum on and been hit with a stinky dusty smell? You’re not alone. Over time, dirt, hair and dander build up inside your hoover and can cause unpleasant odours. Vacuum discs (also called hoover discs) are a quick, easy way to solve the problem.

What are vacuum/hoover discs?

Vacuum discs (also known as hoover discs, scented discs, scent pads) are small scented pads infused with our fragrances that release scent into the air as you vacuum. Instead of your cleaner giving off that smelly old vacuum smell, it spreads your chosen scent around your home.

How do you use hoover discs?

Using vacuum scent discs is simple:

  • Bagged vacuums (Henry, George etc) – place the disc directly inside the bag or near the bag compartment.
  • Bagless vacuums (Dyson, Shark, etc.) – pop the disc inside the canister or above the filter (under the sponge on Sharks), making sure it doesn’t block airflow.
  • Canister vacuums – same method as bagless, close to the filter.

The warm air that flows through your machine passes over the disc, carrying the fragrance with it into the room.

FAQs

  • Do they go in the bag or filter area? Yes, depending on your vacuum type.
  • How long do hoover discs last? Around 2-4 weeks, depending on usage.
  • How many hoover discs should I use? We recommend using one to begin with and if you require stronger scent add another and adjust. We tend to use 2 at a time in our own vacuum for max strength and highly recommend Holiday Slay.
  • Do I need to wear gloves when handling them? You should wear gloves when handling but if you forget make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after with warm soapy water.
  • Can you cut them into pieces? Absolutely. Cutting discs into halves or quarters makes them last longer or reduces the scent strength.
  • Do vacuum discs help with pet odour in the vacuum? Whilst they dont eradicate it like a thorough cleaning would they will help to mask the odours during hoovering.
  • Are they safe for my hoover? Yes, they’re designed for vacuums and won’t clog or damage them when used correctly. Always keep them away from plastic hoover parts as they can sometimes stick due to the oils used.
  • Can I use vacuum fragrance discs in a bagless vacuum? Yes simply place above your filter or in the canister, if you are unsure where for your hoover please get in touch for support.
  • What’s the difference between vacuum discs and carpet freshener powders? Vacuum discs will help mask unwanted vacuum smells, carpet freshener will help to deodorise carpets and also when hoovered up provide scent.

Do they really work?

Vacuum discs won’t clean your vacuum, but they make a noticeable difference. For the best results, keep your vacuum clean, empty the canister or bag regularly and use a disc for that extra burst of freshness.

Bottom line: If you want your vacuum to smell nice instead of stinky, vacuum freshener discs are well worth it.
